Above- #40 Title- “Humpback Mother & Calf Close” 1 of 500
Whilst filming his award winning documentary “Humpbacks from Fire to Ice” Ross spent six seasons off Maui, Hawaii and in the Inside Passage, South East Alaska capturing the natural history of the humpback whales which migrate between those locations. Working with the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation HWRF on a special NOAA permit, he was able to swim with the whales and record some extraordinary footage of these wonderful animals. Sometimes the humpback mothers would bring their calves up to the the researchers creating some extraordinary moments for the ultra high definition cameras. The mother humpback whales are extremely protective of their babies and they stay in close proximity to each other at all times.
