Above- #21 Title- “Humpback Escort Blows Bubbles with Dolphins” 1 of 500
Whilst filming his award winning documentary “Humpbacks from Fire to Ice” Ross spent six seasons off Maui, Hawaii and in the Inside Passage, South East Alaska capturing the natural history of the humpback whales which migrate between those locations. Working with the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation HWRF on a special NOAA permit, he was able to swim with the whales and record some extraordinary footage of these wonderful animals. Humpback mothers, calves and male escort whales would be observed in the deep water around Maui creating some memorable moments for the motion picture cameras. Here a mother humpback whale and her calf are accompanied by a male escort whale which blows a bubble screen in an attempt to hide the female from other competing males. This pod of whales is followed by a group of inquisitive dolphins swimming in deep water surrounding Maui.
