Above- #10 Title- “Humpback Mother & Calf over Coral” 1 of 500
Whilst filming his award winning documentary “Humpbacks from Fire to Ice” Ross spent six seasons off Maui, Hawaii and in the Inside Passage, South East Alaska capturing the natural history of the humpback whales which migrate between those locations. Working with the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation HWRF on a special NOAA permit, he was able to swim with the whales and record some extraordinary footage of these wonderful animals. Often the humpback mothers would bring their calves into the shallows of the coral reef to rest creating some memorable moments for the ultra high definition cameras. The mother humpback whales are extremely protective of their neonatal babies and they stay in close proximity to each other at all times.
