We had an extreme close encounter whilst filming a very curious mother Humpback whale and her calf off Maui. The mum was so relaxed with us she seemed to encourage her baby to interact with us at touching distance all the while the escort male could be seen resting below whilst the shenanigans carried on at the surface. Whilst Peggy West Stap shot some extraordinary stills of the action Ross shot on his HDCAM some intimate scenes of mother and calf up close and personal.
