Whilst filming his award winning documentary “Humpbacks from Fire to Ice” Ross spent six seasons off Maui, Hawaii and in the Inside Passage, South East Alaska capturing the natural history of the humpback whales which migrate between those locations. Working with the Hawaii Whale Research Foundation HWRF on a special NOAA permit, he was able to swim with the whales and record some extraordinary footage of these wonderful animals. Often we would observe individual sub-adult humpbacks in the shallows of the coral reef creating some memorable moments for the cine cameras.
